The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Prince Solomon Abel Eke has blamed the perennial flooding of Nkpolu axis of the East/West road on the failure of the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out proper geological study before the construction of the road.

He stated this while receiving the report on the study of the Nkpolu flooding by the Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society, Port Harcourt Chapter.

Hon. Solomon Eke who thanked the society for a job well-done noted that the recommendations would be critically studied and to be discussed with the relevant authorities on the way forward.

On the financing of the report, Hon Eke said it is beyond the capacity of the council and that the council would liaise with the State government to find a lasting solution to the challenge.

Presenting the report on behalf of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society Port Harcourt Chapter. Mr. Prosper Jeremiah, the society recommended among others the provision of boro pits, creation of culverts across the road to channel the water and the buy off of some properties to provide the boro pits.

The society however blamed the perennial flooding of the area on urbanisation and lack of proper geological study before the construction of the road among others.

It would be recalled that the council commissioned the Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society Port Harcourt Chapter to carry out holistic study of the area to finding a lasting solution to the problem of flooding in the council area
